Modern Basics

March 7, 2013

I’m behind the times. I know. I’m okay with that. 😉

I recently bought the Papertrey Ink Modern Basics stamp set. I’ve been having so much fun with it!! This first card is one that was inspired by one I saw months ago. Somewhere. I didn’t bookmark it. I just have a vague recollection of it. So I’d be surprised if there is more than a basic layout similarity as that’s the part that stood out in my memory when I started playing around. I chose the blue/green combo because I initially intended for this to be a sympathy card that could go to a man or a woman. But then discovered that my sympathy stamps are all a bit too ‘fancy’ for this stamp set. So it became a get well soon card. That works too. The sentiment is by Verve.

One more thing… I finally found a place that actually makes my cards closer to white when I photograph them. I’ve yet to become talented enough to both make cards look white an eliminate odd shadows in the picture. So that shadow at the bottom is my camera. I’ll keep trying!

Have you ever….

March 6, 2013

fallen in love with a stamp set? I *LOVE* the Modern Basics stamp set. I know I am incredibly behind the times when it comes to current trends, because this set came out sometime in 2011 (I think??) but it is too much fun!!! I have about a weeks worth of cards to post that I made with just this set. I just have to wait for the sun to come out so that I can take some pictures. Stay tuned…

Hello Spring….

March 5, 2013

The gorgeous wreath stamp is the ‘Wreath for all Seasons’ from Papertrey Ink. Love it! Stamped the ‘flowers’ in both green and yellow for that early spring feel. I don’t think you can really see the green in the photo, but I was going for a buds and blooms look. Stickles brighten it up even more. I only wish I had stamped my little birdie friend in brown instead of black. He’s a little bit stark. Oh well. He’s still cute! I’ll fix him on the next card I make.

Another Fern Card

March 4, 2013

I was having fun playing around with the fern stamp I used in this post and came up with this card as well. To get the green background I just stamped directly onto one of my acrylic blocks and pressed it onto the front of the card. Add a couple of stamps and a few black gems and this is the end result. Quick, easy and masculine! Yay!

Mix it Up!

March 2, 2013

Isn’t this vintage bike stamp the best? It was just a random find in the bottom of a sale bin. The background stamp is Stampin’ Up and the sentiment is Close to My Heart. (I love not having any loyalty to a particular stamp company! lol! I love mixing up all my stamps into one project!) I hand cut the banner, but I actually have a banner die that I hope to try out soon!

Thank You Ferns

March 1, 2013

One of the challenges of providing cards for our church on a regular basis is making sure that there are an adequate supply of masculine cards. I’m getting better at them, thankfully!! This one uses a random fern stamp and a Verve sentiment. The ferns are stamped in two of the newer Memento ink colours (pistachio and toffee I think). Love them!

Thank You

February 28, 2013

I’ll be posting a lot of thank you cards in the next while. I have started to make cards specifically for the use of our churches (my hubby is in charge of 3 small, rural churches). Thank you cards and sympathy cards seem to be the ones we need the most so I’ve got to keep them in stock!

I finally bit the bullet and bought a few sets from Papertrey Ink. This card uses one of their large thank you stamps as well as the Gracious Vases set. Love this set! Actually, I love all the sets I bought from them! They are all so versatile. I’m fairly certain the ones I got are all designed by Maile Belles. She creates fabulous sets. 🙂 This card is a basic CASE of a card she made. Gorgeous and simple!
